The Best Drugs for INFJs

Medical & Legal Disclaimer: I am a human behavior specialist, not a medical doctor or a psychiatrist. This blog post is for educational, informational, and entertainment purposes only. I am not prescribing, diagnosing, or endorsing the illegal use of any substances. Always do your own research, consult with a licensed healthcare professional before introducing new supplements or botanicals to your routine, and check the legal status of these plants in your jurisdiction.

My sister met a shaman once.

His mentor told him to go into the jungle and look for a plant with no medicinal uses.

After years of searching, he came back dejected and empty handed. Then his teacher said: you passed.

Nature doesn't make mistakes, but our culture certainly makes weird rules about how we access it.
THC oil cures cancer.
Ibogaine cures addictions.
Psilocybin cures PTSD, anxiety, and depression.
They all get your ego out of the way.

I want to be clear that I’m not super into drugs. But I am super into shortcuts. And the outer world doesn’t change until the inner world changes.

Here’s the plot twist, though: INFJs don’t need drugs. INFJs are drugs.

The Danger of an Open Third Eye

Normal people take drugs to transcend themselves; which, depending on the drug, is already a questionable decision.

But intuitives, especially introverted intuitives, and especially INFJs, don’t need help escaping reality. We need help returning to it. Our third eye is already wide open. On an average Tuesday while drinking our morning cold brew, we are swimming in the depths of the psyche and traveling through the permeable membrane of the collective unconscious.

That means if you take the wrong drugs, too many drugs, or get secretly drugged, you might blast yourself straight into a stratosphere you can’t return from. This is why potent hallucinogens can induce or worsen reality-bending disorders like schizophrenia in highly sensitive personality types.

If you want to be powerful, keep your high intuition without high insanity, and avoid making moronic decisions you might not recover from, you have to choose your medicines carefully. Stay away from hard drugs and stick to gentle, grounding plant medicines.

  • Alcohol is terrible for intuition. It lowers your vibration and turns you into an open target for demonic personalities and psychic vampires.

  • Stimulants make you feel powerful. Opiates make you feel loved. But both charge an interest rate that will ruin your life.

  • Tobacco in traditional shamanism is a sacred, cleansing medicine used sparingly and intentionally. But if you're ripping a vape or smoking all day, you aren't treating, you're just coping. And you’re offending tobacco’s sensibilities.

  • Ego-killing plants like psilocybin or ayahuasca only open a temporary window into what’s possible. If you don't have a qualified guide, you will never actually integrate the messages.

Your drug of choice reveals the core emotional deficit that you are trying to fill. And you’re not fooling anyone.

The chemistry of coping matrix

I usually only resort to heavy botanical medicine when I’m navigating a traumatic life event or a brutal life transition (and never anything dangerous or addictive).
The rest of the time I try to just eat a vegetable.

But when I do need a little nervous-system alchemy, here is my curated INFJ apothecary.

1. Adaptogens & Functional Mushrooms

When your system is fried, adaptogens are the quiet workers that regulate your stress response and bring your body back to homeostasis without altering your perception.

Daily Adaptogens

  • Ashwagandha (KSM-66): Lowers cortisol and acts like a weighted blanket for a hyper-vigilant nervous system.

  • Rhodiola Rosea (Golden Root): Boosts physical stamina and mental energy without the jitters.

  • Holy Basil (Tulsi): Clears stagnant emotional energy and supports adrenal health.

  • Gotu Kola & Brahmi: Brain-tonics that sharpen memory, calm anxiety, and promote mental clarity.

Functional Mushrooms (The Unsung Heroes)

  • Reishi: The "mushroom of immortality." Calms the nervous system, supports deep sleep, and grounds soaring anxiety.

  • Lion’s Mane: A natural neuroprotective. Stimulates Nerve Growth Factor (NGF), sharpens focus, clears brain fog, and helps rewrite neural pathways.

  • Cordyceps: Boosts cellular energy (ATP) and oxygen uptake. Great for physical fatigue without crashing your adrenals.

  • Chaga: Packed with antioxidants to combat systemic inflammation and keep your immune system bulletproof.

My Personal Favorite: Black Magic Chaga Mushroom Elixir for daily grounding and immune resilience.

A Note on Sustainable Sourcing: Chaga grows extremely slowly on living birch trees in cold climates. Because over-harvesting can decimate wild populations and kill the host trees, always source your functional mushrooms from companies that practice wild-crafting ethics or sustainable cultivation.

2. Social & Calming Botanicals (The Alcohol Alternatives)

Blue Lotus

INFJs don't need more intuition. We need people to believe the intuition we already have. Blue lotus helps our non-believing friends drift up to our level slightly.

  • The Vibe: Subtle, dreamy, relaxed, and heart-opening.

  • Why Use It: Blue Lotus tea is ideal for the non-believers in your life. It eases social friction without dulling your edge.

  • Get It: House of Origins Apothecary Blue Lotus Flowers

Kava

When you want to socialize without drinking liquid poison, I love hunting down a good Kava bar. It gives you the fun, community atmosphere of a night out without the toxic alcohol hangover. But it’s important to know about the menu in advance.

Kava, Kratom, & Kanna: Knowing the Difference

  • Kava

    • Primary Mechanism: Interacts with GABA receptors to slow down hyperactive brain activity.

    • Effects & Use Cases: Deep physical relaxation, muscle ease, and anxiety reduction. Perfect for night-time wind-downs or social gatherings.

    • Risks & Dependency: Low risk of chemical dependency. Note: Heavy or poor-quality extract use can cause liver/kidney strain, so consume in moderation (I have one drink per week at most).

  • Kratom

    • Primary Mechanism: Binds to opioid receptors in the brain.

    • Effects & Use Cases: Low doses increase energy and focus. High doses act as a heavy sedative and pain reliever. Often used by people recovering from opiate addiction.

    • Risks & Dependency:High Risk. Carries a real risk of tolerance, physical dependence, and opioid-like withdrawal symptoms. Use with extreme caution and just skip altogether if you’re not in opioid recovery.

  • Kanna

    • Primary Mechanism: Regulates serotonin levels in the brain.

    • Effects & Use Cases: Daytime social booster. Lifts mood, eases social anxiety, and promotes clear-headed emotional balance with zero heavy sedation.

    • Risks & Dependency: Non-addictive with no chemical dependency. High doses can occasionally cause mild headaches or light dizziness.

3. Targeted Plant & Microdose Solutions

CBD

When the THC in marijuana makes you hyper-analyze every conversation you’ve had since 2012, CBD gives you all the somatic chill-out with none of the paranoia.

The Soul Drops Collection

I like the Soul Drops Complete Set for subtle micro-dosing:

  • SOL (Yang / Masculine Energy): Formulated with Opuntia cactus, Elemi, Ajmoda, and Madhura. It delivers an invigorating boost of positive, action-oriented energy. Pair it with a morning workout, yoga, or breathwork to tap into sharp clarity and confidence.

  • LUN (Yin / Feminine Energy): Formulated with Boa vine, Vilcacora, Taheebo, and Wild rue. Helps you transition energetically from day to night, letting go of daily stress and dropping into deep serenity and restful sleep.

  • COSMOS (Creative / Intuitive): Features Abuelo Sanango, Vilcacora, Taheebo, and Wild rue. Enhances lucid dreaming, subconscious repair during sleep, and waking creative inspiration.

  • MIND (Focus / Drive): Blend of Gotu Kola, Brahmi, and Golden Root to breeze through deep focus work and daily tasks without burning out your nervous system.

The LUN drops are made with Boa Vine which is also known as Ayahuasca or Banisteriopsis Caapi. This vine has been used for thousands of years for its profound healing and wisdom. This formula was specially created to exclude any psychedelic effects.

4. Kitchen Alchemy: Food as Medicine

Your gut health is directly tied to your mental health through the gut-brain axis. In a very real sense, your regular plate is your most potent daily drug.

If your gut microbiome is screaming, your intuition will feel like panic.

Mood Elevators & Neuro-Nutrients

To build neurotransmitters like dopamine and serotonin naturally, prioritize:

  • Natural Mood Elevators: Fresh lemon, basil, dark chocolate.

  • Prebiotics & Probiotics: Kimchi, sauerkraut, kefir, fiber-rich dandelion greens, and garlic.

  • L-Tyrosine (Dopamine Precursor): Eggs, pumpkin seeds, spirulina, pasture-raised chicken, sesame seeds.

  • Vitamin D & B Complex: Wild-caught salmon, egg yolks, methylated B vitamins, leafy greens, sunflower seeds.

  • Antioxidants: Wild blueberries, matcha, dark leafy greens, pomegranate.

The Glucose Shield: How to Eat for Nervous System Balance

When your glucose spikes and crashes, your adrenals pump out cortisol and adrenaline; tricking your body into thinking you are in danger.

To shield against insulin spikes, balance every plate using the Glucose Sandwich Principle:

Eat in this exact order: Vegetables -> Proteins & Fats -> Carbs

Aim for a balanced plate ratio:

  • 1/3 Fiber & Vegetables (eat first to coat the intestinal lining)

  • 1/3 Protein (eat second to promote satiety and repair)

  • 1/3 Complex Carbs & Healthy Fats (eat last to slow glucose absorption)

My Current Personal Protocol

I love crafting loose-leaf tea blends tailored to whatever season of bullshit I'm in, whether that's summoning creative flow or restoring my battery.

Right now, I am specifically healing a cortisol-flooded nervous system and tuning up my insulin sensitivity. My current apothecary routine looks like this:

  • Morning: Cacao & Lion’s Mane Coffee (for clarity) or a cup of Lavender Green Tea (for L-Theanine).

  • Daily Targeted Supplements: Akkermansia (for gut barrier integrity), a high-quality Methylated B-Complex, Dihydro-berberine (for blood sugar control), KSM-66 Ashwagandha, and Magnesium Glycinate to help me chill the fuck out before bed.

The Takeaway

Most modern pharmaceuticals are simply synthetic, isolatable versions of plants. They’re synthetic largely because capitalism can’t patent a dandelion or a mushroom that grows free in the woods.

Modern medicine absolutely has its place and I will never tell you to throw away life-saving western interventions. But plants have their place, too. They remind us that healing isn't about escaping reality; it's about coming back home to our bodies as an integrated part of a larger and wilder natural world.

Understand what you’re actually seeking, stop lying to yourself about why you’re reaching for it, and choose the least destructive route possible. Please consume responsibly.

Medical & Legal Disclaimer: This article reflects my personal research, experience, and perspective. It is not medical advice, diagnosis, treatment, or a recommendation to use any drug, supplement, plant medicine, or psychoactive substance. Individual responses vary widely, and “natural” does not automatically mean safe.

Some substances discussed here can interact with medications, worsen psychiatric or medical conditions, cause dependence, or be illegal where you live. If you are pregnant, taking prescription medication, managing a health condition, or have a personal or family history of psychosis, bipolar disorder, addiction, or other serious mental health concerns, speak with a qualified healthcare professional before experimenting with psychoactive substances, herbs, or supplements.

Claims about therapeutic benefits should not be interpreted as proof that a substance “cures” a condition. Emerging research is promising in some areas, but evidence, dosing, safety, legality, and clinical supervision matter.

In other words: use your discernment. Do your research. Respect your nervous system. And don’t outsource your common sense to a mushroom, or to me.
